who I am
Experience
I’m Joanne Barker and I’ve written about health and health information technology for more than 20 years. Whether writing for patients or providers, I approach every project with curiosity and determination to make the topic approachable. My experience includes research, interviews, writing, editing, script writing, and video production.
Education
I graduated from Colorado College with honors in English and a host of pre-digital war stories from the basement office of the school newspaper. Ten years later, I earned an MS in Health Communication from the Tufts University School of Medicine. In addition to a visit to the anatomy lab, I got to learn about what works and doesn’t work when communicating about health.
Variety
When not doing any of the above, I’m usually out rowing, swimming, cross-country skiing, or gardening. My creative nonfiction has been published by The Drum.
